Be Honest

“But Martha, the dead man's sister, protested."

John 11:39

Perhaps you remember the account of the death of one of Jesus' best friends. Lazarus? Read about it in John chapter 11. I'm sure He had His reasons for not rushing to the town of Bethany when He received news that Lazarus was so sick that he would soon die. I'm sure He knew He was going to do a big miracle. A bring-someone-back-to-life moment.

As He opened His mouth to speak the divine command, Martha, Lazarus' sister, spoke up with the honest truth that was on her heart: "Lord, he's gonna stink!"

But that didn't throw Jesus off. The truth that Martha was thinking didn't mess up Jesus' plan. At least she was honest with Jesus. He answered her without rebuking her and told her that they were going to see God's glory. And then He proceeded to do the supernatural, bringing her brother, Lazarus, back to life.

You and I need to be honest with God, too, even if it means admitting that we're thinking about mundane things that we don't think God would be concerned about. Truth be told, God is as much a detail person as He is a big-picture person. God knows your thoughts and how you think. He's the One who designed your brain!

If we're honest with God, that means we're being honest with ourselves, too. And if we need to tell God that a situation is going to be messy or smelly, He's going to say, "It's okay. I'm going to show you My glory not matter what the situation might be." And, by the way, God is okay with messes.

Oh, one more thing . . . If you’re a regular attender or member of the Mt. Laurel Church of God, consider reading  Luke 9:28-43 to get ready to hear God’s message through Pastor Dale this coming Sunday, March 2, 2025.
