Midweek Encouragement - “Developing a Rhythm of Life”

Pastor Dale Miller • Apr 24, 2024

“Developing a Rhythm of Life”

Do you ever feel like your life is out of sync? Is your everyday life in disarray? In this constantly changing world do you find it hard to find a routine that results in peace? A fellow pastor recently admitted that his life had become like a campfire with no space between the logs. Because a campfire needs air to burn well, his life had become cold and lifeless because he hadn’t allowed space for God in the midst of all his activities.

I’ve discovered that the rhythm of my week needs to include more than just doing good things. My life’s rhythm must include space for time with God. I’m so thankful that God’s rhythms don’t ever change. Every day He causes the sun to rise and set, even if I can’t see it because of the clouds. Every night He causes the moon and stars shine. The tides ebb and flow at His command. The spring flowers bloom and the summer sun will eventually arrive to warm us. And, in its time, the winter will return to give the earth rest. Psalm 74:16-17 says, “The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.”

Are you including time for the Lord in your daily rhythm? Or is your daily schedule so packed with “doing” that there’s no space for God? I think we all need to let God teach us to take one day at a time. Let’s allow Him to discipline us to create healthy rhythms that include daily time for rest, daily time for Scripture and prayer, and daily quiet time with Him. A rhythm of daily life that includes space for God will always burn brightly!

For those of you who will be in worship at the Mt. Laurel Church of God this coming Sunday, April 21, my message will be based on this Scripture:

1 John 4:7-21
